AIM
to observe convection in a liquid.

EQUIPMENT 
200ml beaker, water, tweezers, a crystal of potassium permanganate, a drinking straw, bunsen burner, heat mat, tripod, and gauze mat. 

METHOD 
1. set up the bunsen burner on a heat mat
2. fill a 200ml beaker with water
3. place the beaker on top
4. carefully insert the straw into the side with the bunsen burner
5. use tweezers to drop the crystal of potassium permanganate down inside the straw wait for it to get to the bottom
6. very gently, so to not disturb the water, remove the straw from the water
7. light the bunsen burner and slide it under the tripod so that you are only heating the outside of the beaker were the crystal is.
